( Sep. 30th 2009 ) Naturally Nora cake mix tastes like homemade and looks homemade too. Tasting homemade is a good thing, but looking homemade isn't too good if you are baking to impress or for a special occasion. The yellow cake mix tastes like grandma used to make, but does not rise well. The cake I made was lopsided and didn't rise well. (I used one springform pan). The cake was soft, moist and tasted great, if not a bit heavy, but honestly, I can make that kind of cake from scratch. There's really nothing to it. And since you have to add 3 eggs, some oil and milk to the mix, you are only a few ingredients short of making a cake from scratch anyway. You have to add a stick of melted butter to the frosting mix, which makes it a butter cream frosting. This kind of frosting stiffens when it cools and won't be too fancy looking either. It tastes fine; nothing special about the frosting consistently or taste. Overall, for the price, these mixes aren't worth it to me. With all the ingredients you are adding to the mix, you'd might as well pull out your cookbook and make one from scratch! |
